The Whiteinch Centre
1 Northinch Court, Glasgow, G14 0UG

I was approached by Impact Arts Public Art co-coordinator Nat McFadyen to work on this project at The Whiteinch Centre. Initially the Centre was looking for an exterior artwork to mark the entrance but later decided they would like to draw attention to the foyer and have a focal point. I worked with two classes from local primary schools to come up with ideas for the artwork. I made 3d maps of Whiteinch with the pupils so I could find out more about their area. They had a fascination with what was above Whiteinch in the sky; helicopters, planes, rainbows, clouds, the moon and stars hence where the sky and flying theme has arisen from.
The tiles which clad the pillar are all handmade in ceramic and the circular tiles are fused glass with images fired between the glass sheets. The gold lines were applied to the glazed tile surface and fired on.
